What is WMAO duty?

The Wing Mission Alerting Operator (WMAO; pronounced: wham-oh) is our customers’ first point-of-contact when they have a mission for the wing. The WMAO acts as the wing’s 911 dispatcher by finding an IC to accept the mission and relaying the mission details. Finding an IC used to be a manual process, but the WMAO phone system and WMAO app in PRMA greatly simplifies the process and reduces the WMAO’s workload.

Members volunteer to take WMAO duty shifts to ensure 24/7 coverage based on the schedule set by the wing, group (where applicable), and unit WMAO coordinators.

Training for WMAO is available through the California Wing Learning Management System (LMS). Video 1 outlines WMAO duty. Video 2 demonstrates how to use the WMAO app in PRMA.
